Restful Sleep

Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout a lifetime. Not getting quality sleep at the right time…

A healthy lifestyle is the best way look after heart health. Smoking is really bad for heart health on so many levels, so quit. Diet is key in reducing cholesterol (cholesterol helps clog arteries, increasing blood pressure and the risk of heart attack & stroke), reducing the risk of type II diabetes, and controlling blood pressure. Regular physical activity (a decent walk is fine) and sitting less during the day is great news for the heart.

A good night’s sleep is also important for heart health. People who are not sleeping well and are concerned need to get medically checked for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). A recent study suggests that up to 23% of women and 49% men have moderate to severe OSA – and this has a direct impact on Atrial Fibrillation – a condition where the heart suffers an irregular beat. The good news is that OSA can be effectively treated using a number of different methods, including CPAP therapy.

Getting to a healthy weight is probably the best thing anyone can do to establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The best way to lose weight is to set a realistic goal to achieve over, say, the next six months, in terms of diet and exercise. Then stick to the plan as much as possible. It is not the end of the world if too much food is consumed at a particular meal or an exercise goal was not achieved on a particular day. Just get back to the plan as soon as possible and attempt to hit the goal that was originally set.

Once the original goal is achieved it will be time to review and possibly set a new goal – all aimed at achieving an optimum weight. We recommend regular review and recording of your weight and body mass. HealthGear’s scales measure both of these and store the information in our app.

Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout a lifetime. Not getting quality sleep at the right times can affect mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety.

Sleep deficiency can increase risk of suffering chronic health problems. It can affect thinking, reaction, work effectiveness, learning, and relationships. Sleep helps brains work properly. When sleeping, the brain is preparing for the next day and it is forming new pathways to help with learning and memory. Sleep plays an important role in physical health. For example, sleep is involved in healing and repair of heart and blood vessels. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke.

If a bad night’s sleep is occurring regularly over time, it’s important to get it medically checked out.

The single most important common factor that contributes to all of these conditions is lifestyle. Regular physical activity, diet and regular checkups are all things that you can control, ensuring your health is headed the way you want it to be.
